I got roused on this morning by my husband for making him feel incompetent. I couldn’t fathom why! We were both getting ready for work and apparently I was clucking over the kids (as you do) making him feel like I was doing everything and he felt useless.

Part of me felt like saying “get over yourself!” another part was thinking maybe if he did help I wouldn’t have to do it. Then I took a step back and looked at the picture and how I really WAS overdoing it. It can be so hard to let go.

Having returned to work part time after baby number two the workload is definitely shared more. My hubby is doing more around the house and I just have to let it happen. I don’t have the time or the energy to do everything and as much as I appreciate my husband pitching in it is tricky sometimes letting him in on ‘my domain’.

Maybe I overcompensate in an effort to feel better about being a working mum or trying to do my fair share but end up just stepping on his feelings. This work life balance thing is tricky!

One of the best things about him doing more is he does more day to day stuff with the kids – teeth brushing, shoe tying etc, which I think is good for their bonding and I secretly hope he will realise how busy and draining it can be looking after kids. Which at times he has which is nice. I also appreciate what its like to work all day then come home to more work and kids in your face the minute you walk in the door.

Its always nice to appreciate each other in the end. How do you manage the house between you and your partner? even if you aren’t in work outside the home….
