Every week around Australia, thousands of adults and children meet for playgroup in child health clinics, kindies, scout and church halls, council or community venues, parks, and private homes.
There are even weekend playgroups for families who can’t get to one during the week!
With over 8,500 playgroups meeting regularly, there's sure to be one near you!
A playgroup typically goes for two hours, and the cost is usually around $3. That's about the same as a cup of coffee!
Playgroups are not child-care or child-minding. Adults and children play and socialise together at playgroup.
At playgroup you’ll meet mums and possibly dads, grandparents and other caregivers (eg. family day carers or nannies) and children aged from birth up to five-year-olds.All sorts of families go to playgroup!
Playgroup is THE best place to have fun with your child, and it’s also a great place to chat with other families about being a parent.
Activities at playgroup are either free or low cost, and may include:
• Music and singing
• Imaginative play
• Outdoor and free play
• Art and craft activities
• Outings
