Supported Playgroups provide opportunities for parents and children who would not normally access a playgroup. This program is funded by the Federal Government to address the needs of particular communities that are socially isolated and/or disadvantaged. There are six main types of Supported Playgroups:
1. Playgroups for Culturally & Linguistically Diverse families foster social inclusion to reduce their sense of isolation. Playgroups of this type can be culturally specific or multicultural and provide a support network, invaluable information, and community support for migrants.
2. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
3. Playgroups are available for families where either the parent or the child has mental health issues and/or disabilities. These groups are run by staff from a support agency or organisation and provide skilled professional assistance and peer support for parents and children alike.
4. Teenage and young parent families
5. Families where one or both Grandparents are the primary carer of the child can attend a Playgroup specifically for Grandparent Carers.
6. Socially isolated, vulnerable and disadvantaged families.
